When asked what her home town is, Nancy Irvine Slover simply answers “Texas.” Though her father was from California, where his father was also a preacher, his work as a gospel preacher and evangelist kept her family in Texas for most of her childhood. Consequently, Nancy has lived from West Texas and the Panhandle to the busy metropolitan area of Houston. Her mother, a native of San Antonio, was also a faithful Christian devoted to the Lord. While growing up in a preacher’s family might be considered challenging at times, the faithful teaching of her godly parents influenced Nancy to follow Christ in her young years. However, she was known to confidently proclaimed she would never marry a preacher.
She met her future husband, George Slover, Jr, at Texas A&M University where she earned her BBA in accounting. They married shortly after graduation and began a journey together that has lasted over 45 years. They have two children, a daughter and a son, and have lived in Louisiana, New Mexico and west Texas before finally settling in San Marcos, TX. George serves as an elder and evangelist at the church of Christ on Hunter Road in San Marcos.
Yes, she did marry a preacher after all! But striving to be a helper suitable for him (Genesis 2:18) has been the joy of her life. By his side, she has had many opportunities to teach Bible classes and write Bible lessons, as well as counsel and edify others. She is now retired from all accounting work and able to focus more time on her writing.
